Šumadija

How to play

The same guide as in the game (Igra › Kako se igra), in one place. The game is in Serbian for now, so in-game names are given in Serbian where it helps. For more tips, see the blog.

Getting started

Two families arrive in Šumadija. Your job is to help the village survive its winters and grow.

At the bottom are the tabs: Gradnja (Build), Ljudi (People), Prodavnica (Shop) and Igra (Game). Tap a building or a person to see more.

Game speed is in the bottom right (II = pause). Tips on screen tell you what matters next.

Food

Everyone eats one meal a day. The fisher and the forager bring raw food, and the cook turns it into meals.

There are no mushrooms in winter, so build up a stock before it arrives. On a field you choose grain, potatoes, cabbage, onions, peppers or a mix.

A varied diet keeps people healthy: the more kinds of food the village eats, the less often it gets sick (onions help most). The cook changes dishes on her own.

In autumn the cook pickles cabbage for winter. Sauerkraut protects against illness in winter, so plant plenty of cabbage in summer.

If food runs out, buy some in the Shop. Hungry people work slower and can die.

Wood and firewood

The woodcutter fells trees and carries logs to the chopping block, where they are split into firewood. Logs are also needed for building.

In winter every house burns firewood. Without it people freeze, so fill your stock before winter.

Logs are whole timber (for building), firewood is split wood (for heating). Tap the top bar for a list of supplies.

The forester replants where trees were cut, away from houses, roads and fields.

You can float spare logs down the river to sell (the Logs button, bottom left). The forester plants new saplings.

Seasons

A year has four seasons of six days each: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Spring and summer are for sowing, building and supplies. At the end of spring and of summer there is a fair where you sell goods.

After year ten, bad weather arrives too: drought, flood or a hard winter. Always keep a little extra.

Houses and growth

A wooden house holds six people, a brick house eight. When a house is full, young people move to a house with room.

An empty house attracts a new family. Children are born when there is food and room, and grow up in a few years.

If every house is overcrowded, the young leave for good. Build houses in time.

Village levels

A hamlet (Zaselak) grows into a village (Selo), then a large village (Veliko selo) and a small town (Varošica). Each level needs enough people and enough winters survived.

Each level unlocks new buildings: the brick kiln, pens, the mill, the square, the market, the monument and the town hall.

To become a small town, every house must be brick (tap a house › Upgrade).

Livestock and crafts

Keep chickens, sheep or cows in a pen. In summer the herder takes them to graze, and the mower cuts hay for winter into the hayloft.

A chicken pen has a grain feeder: grain from the fields goes there first, so the cooks cannot use it up.

Sheep give wool, and seamstresses knit it into sweaters. The brickmaker fires bricks in the kiln, the miller grinds grain.

The school teaches children: educated people work better.

Health and fire

People get sick more often in winter, and when they are hungry or cold. The herbalist gathers herbs in the forest and heals them.

An infirmary stores herbs and slows the spread of illness, and a hospital even more. Old people work slower.

Wooden houses can burn down. A well nearby puts out fires.

Community and endgame

The community monument gives everyone a bonus: they work, carry and make more. Each level costs more and takes years.

The town hall collects taxes, speeds up building and attracts families.

As a large village you can found a new village in another region (Game › Region map). Villages send goods to each other.

Harbour and trader

From year 12, once the village is large, you can build a harbour on the shore.

A trader sails along the river and docks in spring and autumn for a few days. He only trades goods already in the harbour, and space is tight.

For your goods he gives dinars, herbs, bricks, livestock or rare items: iron tools, better seed and salt.
